With the urbanization process and super metropolitan rapid expansion contemporary economic and technology rapid development, and the change of overall social culture and the idea of popular aesthetic urged the information media and building skin combined with part of the architecture conception and design practice. Thus create a unique and new building phenomenon——building digital skin. Building digital skin has the dual nature of matter and consciousness, on one hand it contains the traditional building due element, on the other hand, it dissimilated under the osmosis of contemporary new media art and technology. Because the penetration of the alienation makes building skin separate from the pure material attribute and joined the part of mental attribute, at the same time it also let the people’s feeling of the building space have been changed. To some extent a brand-new building experience form was born quietly. However, as a new time and society without long-term test things, building digital skin, there are also various defects and deficiencies. At the same time building digital skin also received the restriction of the cost, technology, energy and culture, which has some limitation.This article start from the time background of building digital skin emerged, analyze the dual attribute of material and consciousness, the entity and the ideographic of digital skin, through its historical evolution and the project example analysis, at the same time from the two parts of art value and humanity benefits to analyze the development of building digital skin in contemporary society, and combining socio-cultural structures of the digital age tries to explore the future possible development trend of building digital skin.
