A Study Of Three Squares And Its Surrounding Environment In The Heart Of Seoul

Such as Han-River renaissance, Cheonggye-cheon restoration, Gwanghwa-munSquare, multifarious public spaces have been created in downtown. It means that publicinterest of city is regared more important than ever before. Particularly.Gwanghwa-mun square, Seoul square and Cheonggye-choen square are the typicalpublic spaces.These place, originally used for urban Infrastructure such as traffic island and roador laid aside, are formed to valuable multipurpose spaces. These squares have three incommon. First, the squares are located in th center of city. Second, the squares arecompletely set up. Third, the squares are restructured from urban infrastructure. But thesquare are isolated from periphery because the spaces were developed on an individualbasis without understangding with surroundings. Consequently, these open squares aredisconnected and inharmonious with the periphery.The purpose of this syudy is to examine the relationship between squares, whichare disconnected with urban spatial structure,and the periphery with actual conditionanalysis focusing on Gwanghwa-mun square, Seoul square and Cheonggye-cheonquare.This study is organized as follows.First, the actual condition analysis is executed inthe three point of view: Hierarchical Order-point of Urban-square, point of street-block,point of street-space. Second, based on the results above, the correlation of square withperiphery space was analyzed in a process of analysis. For this, setting up the block ofstreet and square as Urban Tissue, the prototype of the block of street and square by lotwithin the subjects was derived Through the feature of prototype and derive problem,the feature of square with spatial of periphery was examined and prototypicalreformation was suggested.This research was conducted in three points of view by hierarchical order of urbantissue as square and the spatial of periphery.Also, based on the results above, the patternwas derived from the correlation and the feature of pattern, and suggestion were made.It shows that Urban square should be considered as the space which can be connectedwith Urban. But, the existing viewpoint has limitation to solve the problem and to derive it of square and the spatial of periphery. For this, the block of street and squarewas suggested as a new viewpoint and this is a great significance and a purpose of thisstudy. Also It has a meaning that it proposes directivity for regeneration, reformation ofUrban which focus on the square, by suggesting the reformation of typology, derivingof problem and feature approached by pattern.
