From the dream of China National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA)to become true, it is after more than10years. It is the hope of people and themanifestation of social progress. From the beginning of the project to finish, alarge number of builders dedicated their beautiful youth, while at the same timethey give us much valuable wealth. Now, NCPA has been operated in fifth years,and people have paid more attention to the height of art and the Connotation ofculture it brought to us than the building itself. Just a few years time, the NCPAhas found the accurate position, cleared its direction, formed the special brandimage itself, and has become an aircraft in the cultural market in Beijing.This paper will take the NCPA Opera House as an example and to discussthe use and management of the sound and related contents from the differentpoint of view. This will cover technical and management contents. The technicalchapters include architectural acoustic environment design, the auxiliary soundsystem design and the acoustic measurement; the use and management ofchapters will include the subjective evaluation from the audience, managers andusers, the use and the management of the sound system, the problems anddifficulties, the experience and lessons, the establishment of the security systemand the skill training system to discuss the use and management of the system.The research results can make the people who manage the sound system ofthe NCPA clearer and more efficient. It will provide some basis for thetransformation and upgrading of the system in future. It could give somemanagement methods and experience to more managers in other theatres andprovide some practical use and management data support to the theatre builders.It will promote the interrelation and feedback between the practical managementand the theatre building to improve the operation of the construction and thelevel of the management. It could also give some inspiration to the theatremanagement and the sound industry to establish the industry standards.
