Abstract/Summary:
H-shaped members with sinusoidal corrugated webs are composed of sinusoidalwebs and flat flange webs welded by high frequency welding. As the webs arecorrugated, the sinusoidal web members have higher out-of-plane bending stiffness andload-carrying efficiency than the traditional flat web members, thus the webs ofsinusoidal web members can be higher and thinner. H-shaped members with sinusoidalcorrugated web are suitable for beam especially used in industrial buildings, large-spanspatial structures and bridges.Based on the current research results of H-shaped members with sinusoidal webs,this paper focuses on the deformation calculation of sinusoidal web members andgabled frames and fatigue behavior of sinusoidal web crane girder by using theoreticalanalysis and numerical simulation. With the previous studies from the design codes andresearch literature, some design suggestions for deformation calculation and fatiguebehavior of sinusoidal web steel members and frames are summarized.Firstly, a simplified model of beam elements is proposed for internal force anddeformation calculation of sinusoidal web gabled frames. This model can replace thefine shell elements and increase computational efficiency significantly when analyzingthe internal force and deformation of gabled frames. With the simplified model, thelateral displacement of gabled frame under horizontal loads is predicted: a formula isproposed to calculate the lateral displacement of single-span gabled frame withconstant-section members by using theoretical derivation and finite element numericalverification; following the approximate calculation from Technical Specification forSteel Structure of Light-weight Buildings with Gabled Frames, lateral displacementvalues at the top of frame are achieved for single-span frame with tapered sinusoidalweb members and multi-span frame.Secondly, the fatigue behavior of the welded joint connecting the tension flangeand the web in sinusoidal web crane girder is studied. The fatigue behavior of thespecified joint is evaluated by qualitative analysis. Then the stress concentration of thespecified joint is analyzed by FEA. According to results obtained above, the fatiguebehavior of the joint is evaluated by nominal stress method, one point method and fracture mechanics method respectively. Besides, the fatigue curve of the welded jointconnecting the tension flange and the web in H-shaped members with sinusoidal webs ispredicted.The conclusion in this paper fulfills the design and calculation theories for thesinusoidal web steel structures and provides references for the further modification ofTechnical Specification for Sinusoidal Web Steel Structures CECS290-2011.
