Research On Morphology Of City Square In Wuhan

City Square is an important urban public space component, known as the city’s livingroom. City Square not only provides citizens a good open space of communication, rest,recreation, but also plays a very important role in shaping the city’s character andimproving the urban environment.The paper reviews the development history of city square, and analysis the spacemorphological similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign square. It pointsout development trends and existing problems of modern city square, and sets out thesocial background of the City square in Wuhan.The paper sets the morphology of city square in Wuhan as the focus of study, firstpresents the morphological features of city square in Wuhan from macroscopic tomicrocosmic different level, then selects three representative examples and do a moreaccurate and detailed study on the nature of city square, which is refers to “the unity ofactivities and space”.The paper is based on the architectural theories, combined with theknowledge of environmental psychology, sociology, urban design, finally combines withrelevant theories and practice, put forward some suggestions to solve these problems.The paper is divided into six chapters: Chapter1Introduction discusses the meaning ofthe subject, and the "city square"," morphology "" the morphology of city square " andother related concepts and definition, and describes the theoretical basis for researchpapers, domestic and foreign research trends, research papers meaning, contents andresearch methods.Chapter2discusses the development of morphology of Chinese and foreign citysquares, and reveals the development trend and common problems of current China citysquares, through the comparative analysis between Chinese and foreign city squares.Chapter3discusses the history of the development of Wuhan city square, natural,cultural factors that affect development of the Wuhan city square, and Wuhan existingsquares layout and classification.Chapter4expounds morphological characteristics of city square systematically from four aspects in relationship between square and city, spatial form, environmentalcharacteristics and usage characteristic.Chapter5selects three representative city squares from Wuhan existing squares:Shouyi square, Northwest Lake Square, Optics Valley square, and analyzes them fromaspects in spatial form and usage characteristic, finally evaluates their comprehensivequality.Chapter6summarizes the problems found in the study above, and puts forward thecorresponding improvement strategy based on the related theories and excellent cases.
