Wind energy is a kind of clean and renewable energy, and applied to solveenvironmental problems and power problems. Small wind turbine can be widely used inmost regions where are leak of wind resource. And wind turbine with H vertical axis hassimple structure, with well adaptability for air course, easy installation and maintenance,harmonizing with environment etc. It drives its impeller by lifting action of vane. Whenrotating the impeller, with blade angle changing, the flow angle-of-attack of blades willchange all the time. At the same time, the blade of down side will pass through the wakesregion of blade at the front that can cause flow interference. So it’s very difficult to designand optimize airfoil by mathematical modeling because of complex dynamics model ofblades and unstable state of air flow.This thesis will summarize how wind turbine with vertical axis works by analyzingaerodynamic performance. And it will analyze the influence of optimize aerodynamics ofairfoil and the original airfoil by numerical simulation to find optimal airfoil. Then simulatelift and drag coefficient of basic airfoil to find the factors affecting the performance of windturbine with H vertical axis.This thesis mainly contains four major points: To summarize lift theory of windturbine with H vertical axis, and make a preliminary analysis about how this turbine works.Using two methods to optimize the basic airfoil, simulate airfoil with CFD, to compare theinfluence on the performance of wind turbine. After optimization of airfoils, simulate allwind turbines using those airfoils in different tip speed ratio, finally give the capabilitycurve.Calculate lift and drag coefficient in the range of angle of attack changing when theimpeller using optimal airfoil or basic airfoil turns a circle, then find the factors influencingthe performance of wind turbine with H vertical axis.
