Currently, on civil aircraft actuation system aspect, there is no matureprocess or example can be followed before yet. When the airframe companydevelops the civil aircraft actuation system, people find that the process is notreasonable, trade studies are not sufficient and modeling analysis is notsufficient yet. This paper is based on a real program progress and it is thefirst time inside of China which raises and summarizes the civil aircraftactuation development key links and complete process for certificationpurpose[1,2]. This paper also raises a convenience simulation approach forengineers using which is based on modeling for hydraulic components. Thissimulation is used for actuator preliminary design and performance analysis.In the real program, it starts at actuation system style selection whichprovides the direction for preliminary design. After actuation system conceptdesign has been finished, the author clears up and summarizes the industrystandards and regulations for civil aircraft development and establishes theactuation system high level requirements. Then the actuation systemarchitecture has been finalized by completing several of critical trade studies.Critical design inputs have been captured through requirements flow-downfrom aircraft level to system level[2].This article takes the rudder actuator in program as an example, whichdescribe the rudder actuator primary design and components according thedesign requirements which are flew down through above process. In theactuator performance analysis process, author derives the jet-pipe servo valvemodel according to the valve working principle and establishes hydraulic elements’ simulations by using AMESim software[3]. The control loop hasbeen built by Matlab simulink platform[4]. Author runs the simulation and getsthe conclusion which represents that the design meets the requirements. Someexisting data is used to verify the simulation approach, and the conclusion isthat the simulation approach which is used in this article is effective and theaccuracy is sufficient.The process which is represented in this article and the simulatingmethods is advanced and practicable, which can be regarded as agroundbreaking guidance to civil aircraft actuation system research anddevelopment activities inside.
