Tailing pond is one of the three controlling construction engineering of mining,and also a special industrial building. China currently has a certain scale of thetailings about1500seats. Most of the safety degree level is low, medium and smalltailings are mostly without formal design. Most of the tailings’ downstreams areliving quarters, industrial mining enterprises or important facilities, etc. Tailingaccident happens every month in different degree. Small accident can restorenormal production after the rescue and eliminating dangerous situations, but if thetailing dam break, it would cause casualties and great economic losses.So it isnecessary to take dam break analysis, to strengthen the management of the tailings,minimize impact of disasters.This paper discusse and calculate several main aspects about the the dam breakprocess as the the dam peak flow, the flow process line, the depth of water processline, the flood evolution,with a variety of calculation methods, both the traditionalhydraulics method, also a much more simple method of generalized, and thencombine them to a new method. The last calculation method has reliable theorybasis with simple calculate process, after a lot of experiments, the calculationresults also have fair accuration.Finally, by using GIS second development tool with programming languagefor secondary development, turn the calculation method into program and make theprocess visual, so it will have an intuitive show.This paper simulates the evolution process of the XiangSiGu tailings dam afterthe dam break. Even when the flood evolute to5km place far away, the flood stillhave great velocity, seriously threats the the village of the downstream.
