The existence and development of the society is based on energy. As an inexhaustible and clean energy, solar is paid more and more attention. Solar is an important supplement of energy now, and it has potential to be the main energy in the future. This thesis has a research on maximum power point tracking (MPPT), which is the core problem in photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems. And this paper has done some simulations and experiments for further study. The modeling of PV arrays is the basic problem in MPPT research. In the research, the output characteristic of the PV arrays is studied amply, and then simulation model based on Matlab/Simulink is established. This thesis has builded a simulation model by using Boost Converter to match the internal resistance of the PV arrays. In that way, the system can realize maximum power point tracking.Algorithm is the soul of the MPPT system. Some commom algorithms are analyzed and compared in this paper. Based on the comparation, this thesis proposed a novel algorithm named successive approximation. The simulation results verified that successive approximation has good static and dynamic characteristics, and it can adapt the environment quickly.According to MPPT systems’whole structure and control scheme which is produced in this paper, LPC2210is taken as core to establish hardware platform. And then some experiments were done to verify the validity of the successive approximation.
