With the increasing step of human exploration on the ocean, people also recognize thatoceans will become the basic for human survival environment, and the ocean which coversEarth surface area71%contains abundant resources. At the same time, as the "inner space"for the ocean. It has an important military position.Rapid-small-target has been the mainly threat to large surface ship and submarine.Nowadays, there are two methods to defend the attack of the rapid-small-target. The fisrtmethod is using the hardkill to destroy the rapid-small-target. The second method is using thesoftkill to defend the attack of the rapid-small-target. No matter which method is chosen,quickly and quickly getting the contrail and parameter of the rapid-small-target is the mostimportant. The research work of the dissertation includes the following two parts: resarchingthe passive ranging technology and improving on passive ranging system.The main work of the first part includes: introducing some methods of underwater soundpositioning and analyzing their performance, analyzing the theory of measuring direction anddistance of the target by three elements symmetrical and dissymmetrical array, comparing themeasuring error of two kinds of array, and giving the theory of the generic arrays anddiscussing the phase wrapping and the distance wrapping in passive ranging.The main work of the second part includes: The terms of hardware is about chips thatconstitute the system and interface in detail. In terms of software is about the improvement ofsome function of the system.
