With domestic trading market blooming and the highways developing at very fast speed,the numbers of buses which carry larger number of passengers are increasing year by year. Atthe same time, traffic accidents are occurring at high frequency. Especially the accidents with"group death and group injury" bring the harshest influences to the society. So, the safety ofbus structure has been a matter of concern for relevant functional department of thegovernment and common people as well. It is not only the hot issue but also has importantpractical significance.This paper refers to the ECE R66equivalent authentication method. Finite elementmodel of a bus body segment is created. With the combination of body segment numericalsimulation and the real vehicle testing, the deformation of the structure of the body segmentsand the situation to invade the occupant survival space are evaluated. Experimental resultsand numerical simulation are compared. The main contents are as follows:Firstly, the superstructure strength testing method being used in Europe and the UnitedStates in the passenger car industries are summarized and the basic theory of the bussuperstructure is described.Secondly, the theory and numerical analysis process of LS-DYNA software is elaborated,and the bus body section rollover finite element analysis process is summed up.Then, a NO.6850bus body geometry model and finite element model is established.The computer simulation process of the bus body section rollover is investigated. Theevaluation regarding the survival space of the body segment invasion, the energy absorptioncharacteristics and the change in acceleration during the time of analysis are discussed. Thislays foundation for further optimization and research of car body structure.Lastly, through body segment real vehicle rollover test, the correctness of the simulationresults is verified.A new device which is the bus body section rollover deformation detection is built. Fromthe objective point of view and a comprehensive view, the survival space of the busbody segment is evaluated.The results not only provides the bus enterprise, the guiding significance and values forthe upper part design of the structural safety of the bus but also the basis of the bus structure safety evaluation lying under relevant departments.
