Low original design standards, aging of structural components, the strengthreduce of various materials, and many other internal and external factors will leadto a bridge go to the bad state after many years of operation, result in reduction ofits bearing capacity, affect its safety and normal operating. How to assess thebearing capacity and safety of existing bridges, evaluate damage degree ofstructure correctly and maintenance the bridges reasonably to improve thereliability of the bridges have been a common concern in the whole world.Due to the limitations of detection methods, the diversity types of bridges andcomplexity of their structures, the bearing capacity assessment and diseasesanalytical method of common middle and small bridges is in need of improvement.The main studies conclusions in the paper are in the following:1. Inspection, evaluation and reinforce technology about construct of bridgesare studied, and relative theory in existence is summarized; by combination of thepresent situation of bridge management in Xiaoshan urban, the objective andsignificance of bridges assessment and strengthening is also explained.2. On the basis of research achievement at home and abroad, some typicalmechanism of disease on common concrete girder bridges is discussed. The bridgeinspection and bearing capacity assessment methods of domestic and internationalare also analyzed, compared and summarized.3. In accordance with the existing bridges in Xiaoshan urban, overallcondition of the bridges are evaluated through experimental assess process. Based on static and dynamic load test, the finite element method and field test are used toassess the bearing capacity of the bridge. According to the current economic andtechnological conditions and the demand of operation, structure performancesasses are got, and maintain and reinforce project of upside structures are also putforward.4. Based on11bridges’ test data located in the downtown area of Xiaoshan,the related factors of these diseases in this reign are analyzed and obtained thecontrolling factor of bridge diseases.
