Plane contact friction pair is widely used in engineering practice, such asplastic forming, plain bearings, mechanical seal, and so on. To improve the frictioncharacteristics by design of surface topography in plane contact friction pair hasbecome an important direction of tribology research.The purpose of this paper is to study the influence of surface topographycharacterization parameters, especially close void volume and connectivity index,on the tribological properties of laser textured surface under plane contactconditions. First of all, in order to obtain different surface topography, laser markerYLP-F10is used to texture the surface topography of the specimen,then the surfaceof the specimens are scanned by Talyrsurf CCI Lite, and the ISO25178parameters, scanned image and the height data on corresponding sampling regionare obtained. Base on the height data,connectivity index and close void volume ofthe corresponding measured surface are calculated. A series of frictionalexperiments for oil lubrication and grease lubrication with operating conditions ofdifferent load, velocity and different material are conducted on a HDM20end-facecontact tribo-tester. Then the relationship between friction properties and load,velocity, micro-pit depth, surface ISO-25178parameter, connectivity index, closevoid volume is investigated.The results show that micro-structure characteristics of surface topographyhas a great impact on tribological properties of plane contact friction pairs, theinfluence of micro-structure characteristics of surface topography on frictionproperties under oil lubrication is more remarkable than that of grease lubrication.The change of the friction coefficient of textured surfaces is complex under thecondition of steel-copper friction pair, but smooth and steady under the conditionof steel-steel friction pair. The optimal micro-structure characteristics of surfacetopography are different under different condition. It is beneficial for thetribological design of micro-structure characteristics of surface topography tocharacterize the surface topography through the combination of connectivityparameter and volume parameter, under the condition of oil lubrication, therelationship between tribological properties and three-dimensional characterization parameters of steel-copper and steel-steel are consistent with the variation when theload of300N and the up specimen end ring average rate of1.25-1.50m/s, but therelationship between tribological properties and three-dimensional characterizationparameters of steel-copper shows unique changes when the speed is limited in0.25-1.25m/s.
