Motor is the main power equipment in the substation automation system, so it is particularly important to ensure that motor operates safely and stably. The protection types of traditional protection is single and the action of traditional protection is not sensitive enough, so there is lack of effective protection when motor is running in failure state and accidents and economic loss will be caused. A new motor protection device based on microprocessor has been presented in this paper. This device includes a variety of protections, and the action of protection is sensitive.In this paper, the motor protection device is based on DSP and ARM. DSP is used for completing data and executing protection actions, and communication and human-computer interaction is realized by ARM. The design and implementation of each module is described from hardware and software in this paper. In the hardware aspect, the core of system is Dual-CPU. Besides, there are hardware configuration data acquisition unit, digital input/output unit and communication interface unit in this system. In the software aspect, embedded operating system is introduced as the software platform of ARM, and each application has been described in detail. In addition, the hardware and software anti-jamming measures have been proposed to improve the reliability of protection device.The function of this motor protection device includes protection, measurement, control, communication, and fault memory. Compared to the traditional protection device, the reliability and sensitivity of this new protection device has been greatly improved.
