Socketed pile is a new pile form whose tip inserts into the rock strongly. Itdevelops from the end-bearing pile, while there are substantive differences inbearing character. Because of the integral structure made of the rock-socketedsegment and the rock mass, it not only changes the stress mechanism of theend-bearing pile, but drastically enhances the bearing capacity of the pile. Researchfound that the bearing capacity of socketed pile consists of pile-soil shaft resistance,pile-rock shaft resistance and point resistance. When the covered soil is thick andhigh-strength, it effectively improves the bearing capacity of rock-socketed pileand should be fully considered. Socketed pile has the advantages of high bearingcapacity, low single pile settlement, weak pile group effect, giving full play to thestrength of pile body, good seismic performance, short construction period, weatherprotected and so on that makes it more and more widely used in practicalengineering.This thesis, firstly, refers to some domestic and aboard data aboutrock-socketed pile bearing mechanism, and obtains some regular conclusions ofsocketed pile in the engineering. Secondly, from the load transfer mechanism ofsocketed pile, the similarities and differences between rock-socketed pile andnon-rock-socketed pile are discussed. This thesis also detailedly analysis the microworking mechanism and the main influence factors of pile-soil shaft resistance,pile-rock shaft resistance and point resistance. Finally, a3D model of socketed pileunder vertical load is established with hyperbolic load transfer functions tosimulate the load transfer process and investigate the pile axial force and shaftresistance’s distribution along the depth of pile. In addition, another3D modelunder lateral load is built with interface elements to analyze the influencing factorsof pile’s lateral bearing characters and some conclusions are drawn.The study thatis done in this thesis can provide guidance in the design and construction ofrock-socketed pile.
