In all maritime traffic accident, the ship collision accident due to human error has a largeproportion. Ship collsion accidents not only cause the economic losses and casualties, but alsopollution of the marine environment and threaten to the sea life. In order to reduce or evenavoid the ship collision accident caused by human factors and enhance the reliability andsecurity of ship sailing at sea, this paper studied the ship collision avoidance system based onthe ECDIS.This paper designed a ship collision avoidance system on the ECDIS. The ship collisionavoidance system was based on the voyage data of our own ship and target ships, calculatedthe encounter parameters and the ship collision risk index, used particle swarm optimizationalgorithm to give the ship steering angle, and displayed on the ECDIS. This paper’smain taskswere as follows:Firstly, this paper introduced the ECDIS, analyzed the international standard S-57andS-52, and showed the structure, function and implementation method of the ECDIS. Thispaper introduced the structure, function and the effect to the ship collision avoidance of theAIS, analyzed the information types and statement formatting of the AIS, and decoded1,2,3and5types of information of AIS in accordance with ITU-RM.1371-1standard andIEC61162standard. Among these types of information,1,2, and3types of information is thedynamic information,5types of information is the static information. At last this paper putthe decoding information into the Access database.Secondly, this paper introduced some of theoretical and prescriptive knowledge in thefield of ship collision avoidance, gived the calculation method of the ship encounterparameters, and calculated the ship collision risk by fuzzy mathematical method, BP neuralnetwork and gray correlation analysis method, and then analyzed the advantages,disadvantages and applicable range of the three methods.Thirdly, this paper discussed some of theoretical knowledge of particle swarmoptimization algorithm, established the objective function of ship collision avoidance, dealedwith the inequality constraints and multi-criteria objective function, at last used the particleswarm optimization algorithm to simulate the cross meet, head to head meet and overtakingmeet and got the ship steering angle. And the results were verified to be rationality.At last, on the basis of previous work, the ship collision avoidance system based on theECDIS was done. Then, this paper simulated two ships encounter and multi-ship encounter which the situation was the same.Through validating, the research of this paper has a certain scientific and practical value,the decision of the ship collision avoidance giving in this paper can provide good advice forship collision avoidance, and the security protection for the ship sailing on the sea at a certainextent.
