With the SCADA system wide application and development in the industry of our country, RTU products, as an important part of SCADA system, are required to have real-time, stability, communication capabilities and other functions. Embedded terminal support real-time as well and have strong communication skills, good man-machine interface, very suitable as a platform for a new generation of RTU.This paper constructs a RTU used in distributed substation SCADA system. It based on ARM9hardware platform and embedded Linux operating system, realize data processing and communicate with dispatching center. The system uses CAN bus to connect with the third party monitoring equipment and designs the software in the embedded Qt/Embedded environment, including the establishment of man-machine interface, important power data storage, and complete the standard power system transient common format with COMTRADE conversion. Ultimately RTU links via Ethernet with the dispatch center and completes on-site monitoring, data storage and remote monitoring.
