Crankshaft, connecting rod and crank linkage of Chevrolet350V8engine as objects ofstudy in this paper, the crankshaft, connecting rod had done a finite element modal analysis.Free vibration characteristics and constraints vibration of crankshaft and connecting rod hadbeen analyzed. Finally, further analysis on the vibration characteristics of the engine cranklinkage under the actual installation of the crankcase. The beginning of the article section outlines the type of engine vibration and its hazards, especially emphasis on the crankshaft vibration impact on the whole engine; followed by anoverview of modal analysis technology and its applications, domestic and internationalresearch background as well as the application of the internal combustion engine field; and dida brief introduce on modal analysis theory, finally combined with Ansys workbench softwareand describes the steps of finite element modal analysis. Meshing has an essential impact onthe result of finite element analysis, this article also made a presentation on the basic principlesof the grid unit and meshing. In the central part of this article, firstly, based on the finite elementmethod in Ansys workbench on the crankshaft for the free vibration analysis, find free modesand constraint modes of the first ten natural frequencies and mode shapes and lay thefoundation of the further analysis of the dynamics and the torsional vibration analysis. I hadgiving recommendation on the optimized design of crankshaft vibration characteristics in theend of every chapter. Secondly, made the free modal analysis and constraint modal analysis ofconnecting rod, respectively, and calculated the first six modes. This part added the boltpretention when analysis the connecting rod. Finally, to further simulate the actual installation, the article also made constrained modal analysis of crankshaft linkage and found the first20orders natural frequency and mode shapes and analyzed. The mode shapes of the crankshaft performed bending deformation and deformation ofthe largest regional concentration at outer end of each balance block in the low-order naturalfrequencies of finite element modal analysis. However, the modal analysis of the connectingrod indicated that connecting rod in the2200Hz or4500Hz was likely to cause resonance.Constraint modes of the connecting rod in the mode shape graph showed connecting rod bodynear the small head portion of connecting rod deformation severe and appear loss roundphenomenon in the3rd order. The analysis showed that close to the small head portion of theconnecting rod and the big head of connecting rod is weak, should be appropriate tostrengthen the stiffness.
