Dual arrays passive ranging of underwater moving platform is one of theimportant ways about submarine underwater passive location. This paper studiespassive location methods by dual arrays comprising flank array sonar and towed linearray sonar. Ordinarily, the flank array passive bearing sonar can get a higher qualitytarget azimuth information, while the towed line array is a flexible array and it haslower direction-finding precision and bigger error azimuth information. So it isdifficult to use the azimuth information of dual arrays to detect range directly.Becausethe range of dual-arrays is hundreds of meters, even thousands of meters,so it is hardnot only to estimate time-delay deviation rather accurately through the spacecorrelation,but also to detect range by the way of azimuth and time-dely directly.Thispaper discusses passive location methods by dual arrays based on the azimuthinformation of the flank array sonar and the interference structure of acoustic fieldreceived by dual arrays.In this paper,the main works are as follows:First,because of the relative movement of the sources and the sonar platform, thevariation about range versus time is nonlinear. The frequency-time interferencepattern of the acoustic field of broadband noise sources received by passive sonardoes not represent the true frequency-range interference pattern of the acoustic fieldlinearly.Namely,the relative movement causes the frequency-time interference patternextra bending,which makes the transformation of acoustic intensity interferencepatterns from frequency-time to frequency-range be no longer a simple linearmapping relation.In this paper,the nonlinear mapping relation for acoustic intensityinterference patterns of moving broadband noise sources from frequency-time tofrequency-range is analyzed,and a time-space transformation method of acousticintensity interference patterns from frequency-time to frequency-range is proposed.The results of the numerical simulation experiments shows that the time-space transformation can decrease the influence of noisy motions and recover the trueacoustic intensity interference patterns from frequency-time to frequency-range.Second, based on dual arrays’s time space transformation and the flank array’shigher quality target azimuth information, this paper builds dual arrays passiveranging model,and provides the algorithm of moving parameter estimation by particleswarm algorithm,and carries out principle numerical simulation. The results of thenumerical simulation show the effectiveness of the model and the algorithm.
