Abstract/Summary:
In engineering practice, often involving cohesive soils, shear strength parameters of cohesive soils is the key to the success of the engineering of cohesive soil areas. In this paper, different water ratio, void ratio, sand ratio of the clay soil are tested to determine the water ratio, void ratio, sand ratio and other factors’influence of the cohesive strength and the friction angle, and analyze its causes. We compared the cohesive strength and the friction angle of compacted soil samples with hit-solid soil. The results are as follows.1. Made a series of geotechnical test to the soil and sand selected, such as drying method to measure the water ratio test, the pycnometer method to measure the particle density, liquid and plastic limit water ratios and compaction experiments. We measured some basic physical properties and status indexes of the soil and sand. Soil’s air-dry water ratio:w0=3%; particle density:σSsoil=2.68; plastic limit water ratio: wP=21.2%; liquid limit water ratio:wL=34.5%; optimum water ratio: wopt=16.84%; maximum dry density:ρsmax=1.751; particle density of the sand:ρssand=2.64.2. According to the result of shear test of different water ratio, different void ratio, different sand ratio cohesive soil, study the affect to the shear strength index c and ψ:Water ratio has a greater impact on both cohesion and internal friction angle, with the increase of the water ratio, both cohesion and internal friction decreases. With the increase of void ratio, both cohesion and internal friction decreases. And both cohesion and internal friction decreases with the sand ratio increase.3. Hit-solid soil and compacted soil samples were compared, the differences of cohesive strength and the friction angle are as follows:1) The trends that the cohesive strength and the internal friction angle of hit-solid soil and compacted soil follow the water ratio are similar, but the cohesive strength of compacted soil is more higher than hit-solid soil, and the internal friction angle of compacted soil is a little higher than hit-solid soil.2) When the water ratio is less than12.99%, the affect of dry density on cohesive strength is stronger than the water ratio; when the water ratio is higher than12.99%, less than the optimum water ratio, the affect of water ratio on cohesive strength is stronger than the dry density.3) When the water ratio is less than the optimum water ratio, the affect of water ratio on internal friction angle is stronger than the dry density.
