This paper researches that how to take the form of wind power as power-supply system for railway freight vehicles with the wind energy resources during train running. Simulate the flow field under the running NX17general vehicle with Fluent which is defined as standard k-ε two-equation belong to turbulence model, in order to analyze the speed of flow and distribution law. Then take the method of pitot tube to measure actual wind speed and verify the results of simulation to evaluate wind resources under the vehicle. Based on the numerical simulation of flow field and determination of wind speed, complete the design of special small wind turbine system to suit railway freight vehicles. Vertical axis wind turbine takes the form of H-type, conbines lift-type and drag-type blades will work in both direction of train running, and help to start by inself. Design a external protection, flow aggregate equipment and metal filter to avoid gravel and others colliding with wind turbine,enhance wind speed throught it and rectifier turbulent fluid. Make a experiment of the special small wind turbine system to test its overall performance, measure the power output characteristic in different installation angles and with drag-type blades or not in wind tunnel laboratory.The test results show lift-type blade’s large difference of power output capacity in different installation angles,and it’s difficult to work in the neative angles with a best one between5°~15°.The lift-type blades is hard to start by itself with a start up wind speed of6.5m/s, adding drag-type blades will reduce29%of start up wind speed and it’s helpful to expand the wind scope of work.
