The development of aluminum battery and the activation-passivation mechanism of Al anode in aluminum-air battery were introduced in this paper. Al alloy were prepared by adding different content Ga, Mg and Sn. The rate of H2evolution was measured, as well as the rate of self-corrosion. The electrochemical properties of Al alloys including open circuit potential, polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were tested in CHI600electrochemical workstation. Discharge curve under different discharging current density were tested in discharging test machine. The surface physiognomy and composition were obsvered by Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Sprctroscopy(EDS).It was found that the rate of H2evolution and self-corrosion increased with increasing Ga content, as well as the pitting corrosion. Discharge curve showed that when Ga content was0.10%in mass, the electrochmical properties were improved greatly. The voltage was much higher than others within a wide range of current density. After adding Ce into Al-Ga-Mg-Sn alloy, the rate of H2evolution and self-corrosion increased evidently. The more content of Ce was, the more greatly it increased. When the content of Ce was0.2%in mass, the electrochemical property of Al alloy improved. However, the current efficience of Al anode decreased.Based on aforesaid, the effects of heat-treatment on Al-Ga-Mg-Sn anode was investigated. The results showed that the rate of H2evolution and self-corrosion decreased when the temperature was between200℃and300C, but the activation of Al alloy became hard. After treated on the conddition of510℃to560℃, the rate of H2evolution and self-corrosion inreased with prolonging the time of heat-treatment, but it was still under the level of non-treatment alloy when the time of heat-treatment was within2hours. The rate of H2evolution and self-corrosion decreased greatly when Al-Ga-Mg-Sn alloy was treated two hours on540℃, as well as electrochemical properties.According to SEM, the second phrase in Al alloy decreased after heat-treatment evidently, and alloying elements dissloved into Al matrixes,so the activation of Al alloy improved.
