Solid waste management has become more and more concerned environmental problem. Over5billion tons of non-hazardous solid waste materials are generated in USA each year. Of these, more than270million scrap-tires are generated each year. Extensive research projects were carried out on how to use used tyre in different applications. Among them, utilization of these materials to improve properties of cementitious materials is one of hot topics by use of the excellent deformation of scrap tyre. As we all know, concrete is a brittle materials, which greatly limits its application domain in practice. Existed studies show that concrete mixtures properties can be improved by adding with rubber particles, such as toughess, impact resistance, cracking resistance and freezing resistance. An extensive research programme was set up to investigate the efficiency of scrap rubber particles on strength of cementitious materials by experiment and the contrast analysis method. The effects of scrap rubber particles content, rubber particles compounded with polypropylene fiber or emulsified asphalt, three kinds of toughness components mixing together on the stress-strain curves, toughess and dynamic performance of SCC under the stress-strain curves test and concussion test are discussed in this paper. Results indicate that in the investigated area, the loss rate in compressive strength for Cementitious materials almost ranges from2%to5%caused by increasing1%rubber particles depending on the total volume of rubber particle added into sample. With the addition of rubber particles into sample, the stress-strain curves of SCC become more and more gentle, the peak strain and impact resistance of SCC are improved obviously. Rubber particles compounded with polypropylene fiber or emulsified asphalt, three kinds of toughness components mixing together adding into self-compacting rubberised concrete will further improve the toughness of specimens.
