With the rapid development of our national economy,the number of the tunnel engineering construction is more and more. Due to the complex geological environment, tunnel engineering disasters often occur in the construction process, such as gushing water and mud and landslide. These not only severe slow down the speed of the project, causing great economic loss, but also cause great threat to the safety of the person and equipment in the tunnel engineering construction. Therefore, advanced geological prediction becomes more and more important in the construction, and the composite type IP instrument is one of the instruments for that. It can make advanced geological forecast by the methods of two current induced polarization and frequency domain induced polarization. However, the instrument is which can seriously affect not good enough in precision and stability, which can seriously affect the accuracy of instrument forecast.This paper introduces the design scheme and implement method of the composite type IP instrument and its improvement from the soft and hardware. First of all, the research background and the subject are introduced; Second, the paper introduces the concept of the induced polarization,the mechanism of two current induced polarization method and frequency domain induced polarization method and gives a brief introduction of several chemical and physical explanation of induced polarization phenomenon; Third, it introduces the design scheme and implement method of the composite type IP instrument in detail, which is based on the above two methods, including the transmitter system, receiver system of the signal and the soft design structure. Forth, it introduces in detail on the improvement of the instrument from two aspects of the software and hardware, including wavelet transform denoising in time domain, notch circuit design, filter circuit design, matrix circuit design and the improvement of the software module; Finally, we use the improved instrument for outdoor contrast tests. It proves the effectiveness of the improvement of the instrument in precision and stability by the analysis of the experimental results.
