Aluminum radiator is an indispensable and important component in the cooling system of the automatic liquid-cooled engines. With the improvement of aluminum radiator towards high-density, low weight, high pressure and corrosion direction, welding quality of aluminum radiator head is claimed higher requirements. Currently, welding for aluminum radiator head usually adopts the tungsten-arc-welding method that requires manual argon while wire is fed manually. Welding quality totally depends on proficiency of welder and it doesn’t satisfy the demands of automatic welding processing for high quality, high efficiency and large-volume radiator products.By comparison and analysis of pre-selection schemes, mechanical system is designed, which is constituted by direction X and Y moving mechanism of welding pistol, positioning and clamping device of radiator,rolling mechanism, adjusting device of welding pistol, and etc. It is equipped with (C8051F020) control system of monolithic integrated circuits and design of completing low-cost, automatically aluminum-radiator welding. On the basis of this, welding tests are practiced which adopt TIG welding cap that isn’t fed with wires. Results demonstrate that no-fed TIG causes defects such as incomplete penetration, lack of fusion, pores and cracks. After analyzing causes, initially tests are organized by using no-fed A-TIG. By testing gas leakage of welding seam. And by analyzing appearance of seam and seam-root-layer, it is determined that no-fed A-TIG can weld aluminum-radiator cap. At the same time, by matching and testing different parameters, optimized parameters of craftwork is acquired in the process of no-fed A-TIG welding.In optimized parameters, the welding line is straight, burnished, and well-formed in appearance. Chemical composition of the weld mental is not distinctly different from the base mental. Welding compactness is fine. Synthesizing the experimental results, we can draw the conclusion that no-fed A-TIG welding can complete auto-welding process in optimized parameters and satisfy the combination property of aluminum radiator head by the welding equipment.
