China has been under great railway passenger pressure. To fully utilize existing line and improve transport capacity, manufacturing of high-speed passenger locomotives is imminent. High-speed operations bring about many aerodynamic problems, including sharp increase of train air drag and crossing pressure wave, which depend on interaction between locomotive external surfaces and surrounding airflow.Therefore, good pneumatic appearance of locomotives is the key in technology.This article designed pneumatic appearance of the new high-speed passenger electric locomotive at200km/h, and studied on its aerodynamic performances according to theory analysis combined with numerical simulation.Based on good manufacturing feasibility, got the locomotive pneumatic appearance by optimal combination of locomotive’s tip height, elevation angle above tip, roof fillet radius, transition arc at side wall etc, whose characteristics of air drag and crossing pressure wave are superior to traditional one. Then aerodynamic performances of new locomotive in different environment were evaluated:(1) Obtain the relationship of aerodynamic forces and train speed, wind velocity and wind angle, heights of embankment and bridge, and the critical overturn wind speed in windy enviroments;(2) According to China TB and interim provisions of railway technology, assessed the strength of front window, side window, and side wall, comfortableness of driver’s cabin and micro-pressure wave in tunnel exit, and then requirements of locomotive dynamic air tightness is proposed;(3) Pressure distribution of new locomotive in different operation condition studied in this article provides an important basis for locomotive structure strength analysis.Pneumatic appearance design of the new locomotive has been adopted by manufacturing factories, and new locomotive is about to be finalized and produced.
