For the very large emissions of waste glass, waste glass recycling can save resources,reduce energy consumption and reduce pollution. Using waste glass in the production ofcement concrete or mortar is one preferred approach. Developed countries have done alarge number of studies about that, and obtained results can be used in practice. Researchin China have fall behind, but for its rapid economic development, environmentalproblems becoming serious, then developing waste glass and cement concrete or mortarwill be the only way. Learning from the former study waste glass can cause a strongAlkali-silica Reaction (usually abbreviated as ASR), so it is necessary to investigate theresults of adding waste glass as aggregate.The aim of this paper is to study the properties of mortars replace by waste glass sand.Works of this paper are:(1) Effects of adding waste glass on flow diameter and strength of waste glass mortar;(2) Effects of the colors, dosages and particle sizes of waste glass on the ASRexpansion. There are four colors, they are green, brown, clear and mixed color, threedosages, they are20%,30%,40%, four particle sizes, they are0.63mm~0.315mm,0.315mm~0.15mm,0.15mm~0.08mm,<0.08mm;(3) Inhibitory effects of admixtures or reagents on the ASR expansion. Use fly ash,silica fume and LiOH to inhibit hazardous ASR expansion of mortar bars. They are fourdosages of fly ash and silica fume were used:10%,20%,30%,40%, and1%,2%,3%4%,5%LiOH were used;(4) The mechanism. Use Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction(XRD) to explain the expansion mechanism of waste glass mortar.Conclusions were made as follows:(1) There almost no effect on flow diameter when use graded waste glass according tostandard (GB/T14684—2001)(Hereinafter referred to standard grading); (2) When add20%waste glass that smaller then150μm, strength of mortar barsimproved. And it can be promote about15%of before;(3) Adding waste glass40%and below is safe by use green, brown or mixed colorwaste glass, they won’t cause a ASR disease, but clean waste glass dose not;(4) When add20%waste glass, in a range of particle size smaller then600μm, wasteglass at300μm~150μm cause the least expansion;(5)40%fly ash or20%silica fume or3%LiOH can cut down about90%expansion ofclear glass-made mortar;(6) Fractal box dimension and ASR expansion presence a positive correlation. WhenASR expansion rate is higher the fractal box dimension is larger.
