The gearbox is an indispensable part of machinery and equipmentnowadays, which is widely used in modern metallurgy, chemicalengineering, power engineering and other industrial fields. Under theworking conditions of high-speed and heavy-load for long time, thegearbox is prone to failure, for this reason, the precognition, preventionand fault diagnosis of gearbox attract more and more attention. Faultdiagnosis technology is developing rapidly in recent decades, in whichthe signal extraction and feature analysis as a main method of diagnosticanalysis.In this thesis, we first start with the modulation principle ofmechanical vibration signal, making a description of the characteristicsand typical faults diagnosis based on modulation of mechanical vibrationsignal, combined with the analysis method of vibration signals in timedomain and frequency domain, such as: waveform analysis, statisticalanalysis, power spectrum analysis, side-band analysis and cepstrumanalysis. The vibration signals contain a wealth of fault information, toextract the fault characteristics of the gear box from signal and come toanalysis and diagnosis of common faults is the most common method offault analysis, which provides a theoretical basis for engineeringapplications. Finally, take the example of the accidents occurred in rollingmill gearbox, the thesis make a condition monitoring and fault analyzingof the gearbox, using the frequency spectrum analysis of the vibrationsignal to identify the reasons for the failure of the gearbox, achieved afast and prospective effect of the application, and these theoreticachievements were applied to engineering practice, and translated intoproductivity.
