The automotive power steering is one of the key components of automobile, its quality has an important influence to automotive steering security. Sector shaft is the key part in the steering, its lifetime directly affect the service life of the steering gear. From the introduction design to manufacturing and then loading road test card, one of the most critical in automobile steering gear is the design and verification in stage of development. The steering arm shaft gear strength directly determines the strength of steering gear, the analysis and improvement of steering gear design is one of the most important annulus. This project comes from the practical production. A certain type of recirculating ball steering gear in the use of the process had many cases of unilateral heavy failure, through the customer service feedback, the back check analysis found that the steering arm shaft of teeth from the root fracture. The purpose of this research is to find out the causes for the failure and proposed solutions and theoretical basis. This paper introduced the arm shaft processing technology and the CATIA finite element module. At the same time, analyze the strength of the arm shaft and the maximum stress of the tooth root with the CATIA finite element module, verify the arm shaft fracture reason, and proposed a program to reduce the stress of the steering arm shaft gear, and verify it with CATIA.Steering arm shaft is one of the most important parts of steering gear in transmission force, its strength directly affects the overall strength of steering gear, therefore, the individual research is necessary. This study will provide another more simple and intuitive method in steering gear strength study.
