The electromagnetic disturbance, which frequency is wide-band, generated by periodicalturn-on and turn-off processes of converter valves, in the converter stations. It would haveserious interference to secondary equipments inside the converter station and PLC betweenthe two stations. So it is necessary to calculate the electromagnetic disturbance in theconverter station and proposed shielding measures, at the design stage. This paper has carriedout the modeling and analysis calculations. It has important significance in guiding the designof HVDC project.A simulation method to analyze the conducted electromagnetic disturbance (EMD) basedon time-domain wide-band equivalent circuits was proposed in the paper. The steady-stateelectromagnetic process and EMD were calculated together. Influences of operating states anddevice characteristics on EMD generation and propagation, can be easily considered. Modelsof mayor equipments such as converters, converter transformers, smoothing reactors, weredescribed. The EMD levels of a±500kV transmission project were calculated by the method. And taking the transients voltage which is generated by the cutting-on of thyristor as drivingsource, the radio interference level around the HVDC converter station is numerical predicted.
