The smart grid can be regarded as a dual compound network composed of the power network and cyber network. Communication network plays a critical role for the smart grid, which runs through the generation, transmission, distribution and consumption. Smart grid includes smart transmission grid and smart distribution grid (SDG). SDG is an important part of smart grid. Various distribution operations are dependent on the information and communication network. With the increase of distribution data and network connection, the communication network must be more real-time, security and reliability. Therefore, solving the security problem is an urgent task.Group communication is widely applied into the grid communication network. The general method to secure the group communication is encrypting the communication messages by a group key shared among all the group members. The group key should be updated securely and efficiently. In secure group communications, the key management mechanism determines the security, stability and reliability of the communication system, and thus, the study of group key management mechanism suitable for power system is important.This paper analysis the infrastructure of the smart distribution grid and the information security issues, security requirements are also analyzed. According to the structure characteristics of communication system, established group communication model. Using the critical theory and core technology in cryptographic, this paper designs a security group communication solution for SDG. This solution provides data integrity, identity authentication and the illegal access, eavesdrop and disguise problems are solved. Logical key hierarch is to be used to reduce the cost of key update, and providing good scalability. The key update algorithm ensures the forward security and backward security. Finally, the security analysis, performance analysis and the simulated of this solution are given. The results show that this solution is technical feasibility.
