Research On The Homogenized Composition Of Contemporary Archi-Creation In China Under Multi-contexts

Confronted with innumerable opportunities presently, Chinese architects have produced abundant outcome, which is reviewed by many critics that the flower of contemporary Chinese archi-creation has blossomed. The essay doubts this point of view, however, having conducted much research on the existing archi-creation contexts and their influence on archi-creation modes. Further decomposition of contemporary archi-creation contexts has showed that due to the present contexts and a collective unconsciousness of the architects, the superficially booming contemporary Chinese archi-creation is actually only of limited modes. Based on these limited modes, their relationship with architecture itself as well as the outcome of those distinguished architects, the essay proposes the definition of "Contemporary Chinese archi-creation" in the meaning of architecture itself, which starts from the existing contexts and narrows from a generalized existence of Chinese archi-creation down to a more strict one.Multi-angle data analysis has been done in the research of39distinguished architects and their301pieces of works, from the expression and origin of their designing methods and cultural images to functions, materials, application of technologies, etc.. The statistical method of four quadrant analysis is also applied to the quantitative data processing, which locates the architects in the quadrant according to their works. The aggregation of these architects in the quadrant reveals the homogenization behind the so-called "blossom of Chinese archi-creation".The essay develops in depth to analyse the underlying contexts behind the homogenization phenomenon in present Chinese archi-creation from such aspects as the designing standpoint, functional and cultural inclination, choice of material and technology of those distinguished architects. Combined with a critical introspection of these underlying contexts, the essay then puts up with an "anti-contexts" creating strategy, which is demonstrated and analysed by following case studies from both the microscopic and macroscopic sides. The conclusion is drawn finally that only with the settlement of those specific problems in the microscopic aspect and the establishment of an open attitude toward modernity in the macroscopic aspect can the flower of Chinese archi-creation truly blossom.Research in this essay has resorted to those relative concepts and thinking methods in anthropology, psychology and statistics. Theories such as regionalism, cultural conflicts and inner type evolution have also been combined to discover the critical rules in the development of contemporary Chinese architecture and the formation of its own archi-creation conceptual frame. These have helped me to conduct the research with a more subjective and rational attitude.
