China will expand to a larger place in21st century, considering energy safe and national strategy, deep-sea engineering should speed up its pace, make the exploration and controlling of South China Sea more effective. As a new frontal subject, deep-sea engineering is short of engineering experience and lack of mature design code. Deep-Sea engineering technological information and data can only be gained by doing physical model experiment in deep-water test pool, but existing deep-water test pool can’t satisfy the demand of deep-sea engineering in both depth and function. Therefore, Dalian University of Technology determined to be one of the national and global deep-sea engineering center by way of building DUT Deep-Sea Engineering Innovative Test Base, which main part is a deep-water test pool in size of50m X.30m X30m.Along with development of our society, continuous improvement of living standards and depth study of deep-sea research, scale of pool keeps enlarging in our world. New kinds of pools occur all the time and their functions expand from the past, but two conditions never change:it’s made up of plates and shells; lateral force is its main load. Therefore, research on the performance of plates and shells under lateral forces is in great need.This paper is for the research on performance of DUT Deep-Sea Engineering Innovative Test Base Deep Pool. Small deflection plate theory is discussed at first to be theoretical foundation, The boundary condition and forces are simplified, on condition of what the analytical model is built. CKSTank pool-design software and SAP2000structure analysis software are used for modeling and analysis. Then the accuracy of this model is verified and its result is compared to the simplified model to find its feature.An optimization scheme is proposed for the design of the deep pool, brief solution to placement of prestressed strand, tension, seismic design, anti-floating and anti-cracking is suggested for the designers in the future.
