With the widely used of railway orthotropic steel deck, its fatigue problem has become an important research topic in the fields of railway steel bridge. Based on the previous research achievenments, some research work which referencing the fatigue analysis mothod of BS5400was completed on the fatigue properties of railway orthotropic steel deck, by the study of fatigue properties of the U rib-to-diaphragm plate connection.Firstly, according to the different hole shapes between the U rib-to-diaphragm plate connection, the apple shaped and the flat bottom shaped hole shapes which were widely used in practical engineering were selected, then separately set up the finite element models of orthotropic steel deck, and study the different shapes how to effect the fatigue properties of the U rib-to-diaphragm plate connection of orthotropic steel deck. Results show that no matter it is the apple shaped or flat bottow shaped that can be used in railway cable-stayed bridge with steel truss girder, but the apple shaped hole shape is better than flat bottow shaped in certain circumstances.Secondly, the finite element models of orthotropic steel deck which of changing the quantity and space of the diaphragm plates and U ribs were separately set up, and then the study for the different spaces of diaphragm plates and U ribs how to effect the fatigue properties of the U rib-to-diaphragm connection of orthotropic steel deck was done. Results show that U ribs’space could not be too big or too small, or will reduce the fatigue properties of orthotropic steel deck; while, for the diaphragm plates, the smaller space, the less fatigue damage accumulative to some extent.Finally, preliminary research was done of the concrete ballast trough plates about how to’effect the fatigue properties of the U rib-to-diaphragm plate connection of orthotropic steel deck; because of the diffusion of the concrete ballast trough plates about the train loads, the mechanical behavior and anti-fatigue capability of orthotropic steel deck was improved, and the service life of the bridge was ensured and extended to a certain extent.
