Flashover accidents caused by windage yaw of suspension insulator strings of high voltage transmission lines frequently happened and threatened electric power system in recent years. Improving calculation accuracy of the windage yaw of insulator string under strong wind behave great significance and practical engineering value.Based on the analysis of the windage yaw calculation method of suspension insulator string at home and abroad, this paper propose a simple method of curve fitting which consider the dynamic effect of wind loads to calculate the windage yaw of suspension insulator string. this method was analyzed and verified. Main tasks are as follows:(1) This paper analyze the reasons and the development of high voltage transmission line windage at home and abroad. It indicated that the traditional computation methods of windage are based on statics, and are unable to consider the dynamic effect of wind loads.(2) Two methods which are about windage simulation of transmission line in wind field were introduced, and the advantages and disadvantages of each method was analyzed.(3) The existing methods are unable to simulate the similarity and intermit tenancy of the wind. The application of wavelet transform in wind engineering was introduced, which have time-frequency localization characteristic and can focalize discretionary detail of wind.(4) A curve fitting method was proposed to calculate the windage yaw of suspension insulator string which consider the dynamic and random effect of wind loads. By using the time history analysis and the wavelet singularity detection, the maximum windage yaw and the positions of insulator string in10minute were obtained. This methed is validated by the typical transmission line.
