| "Ridge crest" is an important part of the ancient Chinese architecture, and plays asignificant role in architectural decoration.with rich cultural connotations."Ridge crest"includes diverse shapes and beautiful art forms. It also represents the typical Chineseparadigm of the wooden structure building system. Jinci located in Shanxi hanging urnfoothills(悬瓮山麓),about25kilometers southwest of Taiyuan, where the Jin wateroriginated. Jinci was built to commemorate King Wu’s second son, tert-Yui during earlyNorthern We. Li Dao Yuan used to narrated in his "Waterways":"Where there isInternational Mountain pillow water, there is the Tang Shu Yu Temple". Jinci is the complexof religion and sacrifices in social functions, while as a group of buildings, it perfectly takesthe national cultural form, and becomes one of the precious historical heritage, inclusive of aset of ancient architecture unit, gardens, sculptures, murals, inscriptions, and art. This thusdetermines the the overall architectural style of Jinci and its national cultural identity as well.Shanxi, known as “Chinese Ancient Architecture Museum†is one of the cradles ofChinese civilization, and left very rich heritage of ancient buildings. As the typical culturalheritage of Shanxi Jinyang, Jinci has hundreds of constructions which were built over the past3000years, from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the late Qing Dynasty. Jinci ridge is notonly decorated as a unique form of the building components y in the architectural style,materials, and space, but also plays an irreplaceable role in the architectural decoration andvisual psychology. Ridge crest shows characteristics of the times and the cultural origins ofJinci architectural styles to a certain extent.The research object of the thesis is about the ridge crest of Jinci main ancient buildings.Through research methods of field visits, classification comparison and image analysis,architectural decorative features of the ridge crest of Jinci ancient architecture aresystematically analyzed and summarized, which are referred to the large number of professional books and papers and from the perspective of decorative arts, with constructiontechnology and architectural culture as the large framework and combine ding the decorationfeatures of Jinci buildings.This thesis is divided into five chapters.
