The sluice is a hydraulic structure with low water head, which can be opened and closed, and has the functions of sluicing and water retaining. Today, the sluice plays important roles in many fields, such as flood control, water supply, shipping, power generation, drainage, aquaculture, tourism, ecological environmental protection, and so on. However, because of the long-term load and environmental effects and inadequate management, there are a lot of serious potential safety hazards for many sluices. In order to eliminate sluice diseases and recovery the original designed function of the sluices a large number of sluice reinforcement works have been conducted in recent years in China. As the basic and important work, the safety evaluation of the sluices has been paid more attention to nationwide. Therefore, based on the research achievements, the security identification technology was studied combining with the specific circumstances of the sluices. The main contents include:(1) Referring to the relevant standards and specifications, the content of safety appraisal, procedure and safety grade standard in China were summed up. The composition of the various parties involved in and their responsibilities were introduced. The main problems in the identifications of sluices were presented.(2) The advantages and disadvantages and the applicable conditions of the detection techniques in current gate safety testing were systematically summarized. Besides, the irrationality in the latest detection technology was analyzed, and the corresponding solutions were put forward. At the same time, the feasibility of the application of modern detection technology in the gate safety testing was discussed.(3) Safety appraisal of the river gate of the lower reaches in Yellow River of Han Dong Zhuang was carried out, and the main contents include:1. The current situation of the river gate of Han Dong Zhuang was investigated and analyzed;2. The site safety inspection of the river gate of Han Dong Zhuang was conducted;3. The recomputation of the flood control standard, flow capacity, energy dissipation, the seepage prevention and drainage, stable structure, structural strength checking calculation of the river gate of Han Dong Zhuang was carried out;4. The safety status of the river gate of Han Dong Zhuang was evaluated;5. The safety identification of the river gate of Han Dong Zhuang was summarized, which can provide technical assistance for the decision-making of the repair of the river gate of Han Dong Zhuang.(4) Combined with the actural project, the applicability of the relevant standards and specification in the current gate safety was analyzed. The various problems encountered in the process of safety identification were discussed, and the corresponding solution methods were proposed.
