There is a long history of water transportation, even longer than land transportation. Early men used canoes and rafts and some other original form ships to crass over channels and rivers. In modern time, as the world economy and technology develops rapidly, ships growing larger and larger, and when ship accidents happened, the loss of lives and property would be even more serious. One hundred years ago, the cruise Titanic sank and people adopted SOLAS. Recently, the cruise Costa Concordia ran aground on January 14,2012. The evacuation on passenger ship attracted world’s attention once again. It is signification to make a study on the evacuation in passenger ship, which is a very special place.The research on evacuation in passenger ship is rarely involved in corners. In this thesis, there is a general introduction about the research on evacuation at home and abroad, and also introduce the stability of ship and psychology of evacuees in generally. The key point of this thesis is the research on evacuation in corner in passenger ship.The corner given in IMO MSC.1/Circ.1238 is the main object be analyzed. The corner is only a "point" in the whole evacuation routes, so it is hard to calculate the evacuation time, the emphasis of this thesis is to analyze the evacuation speed in corner. Firstly, divide the corner into 4 parts as A, B, C and D, according to the difference of crowd walking speed, density and the effect of ship tilt. Then, based on mechanical analysis, use the methods of sports biomechanics, and consider centrifugal force in non-inertial coordinate system, this thesis educe the range of speed as the ship is upright or tilt in some certain angles. Also, the 3D plot described about the evacuation speed as a function of obliquity and frictionfactor was given by using MATLAB.Finally, this thesis advance some suggestions about the evacuation in corner based on the conclusions, and give some outlook of the further research.
