Spillway is a very important release structure in the hydraulic project, Which can discharge the flood exceed the regulation and storage capacity of the reservoir and save the project. The arrangement form of the spillway appear in various characteristics.In engineering practice,because of the restrict condition of topographic,project structure and the whole collocation of hinge.So,the Design Scheme of Spillway is usually need physical model tests to study on the hydraulic characteristics of the spillway and then optimize the spillway arrangement. In order to conduct a comprehensive research of the overall flow characteristics of the spillway, this paper verify the accuracy of the numerical model to simulate the hydraulic characteristics of the spillway based on the physical model test results.This paper has made some research on the whole spillway overflow by the Combination of physical model test and turbulent numerical simulation based on basic data of CETIAN reservoir spillway project. Also we tested the hydraulic characteristics of the whole spillway flow and measured the discharge, water surface profile and the velocity distribution within the spillway in different running condition by hydraulic model tests. At the same time, this paper conducted a three-dimensional numerical simulation of the whole spillway flow states in CETIAN reservoir by using the FLUENT software, the RNGκ-ε turbulence model and VOF free surface tracking method. The three-dimensional numerical simulation results is in good agreement with the measured data of the physical model. In this case, we put forward a processing method which can improve the accuracy of numerical simulation. Studies have shown that three-dimensional numerical simulation method can simulation the whole flow field of the spillway in a better way, and expand the research means of the spillway flow characteristics, so this method has a high application value and certain academic value.The main content of this paper is:1.An overall comprehension of the Hydraulic Characteristics of the Spillway physical model tests and numerical simulation by reading the literature.2.Made some preparatory work about the tests of model design and model processing of the physical model, equipment installation and commissioning combined with the spillway Project layout of the CETIAN reservoir.3.Made some study on the Hydraulic Characteristics of Spillway under different flow conditions(300.0m3/s,500.0m3/s,1000.0m3/s,1500.0m3/s,2002.Om3/s,2225.6m3/s,2400.0m3/s).Measure the depth and velocity distribution of the spillway typical section.4.Made a three-dimensional numerical simulation of the whole spillway flow states in CETIAN reservoir by using the FLUENT software, RNGκ-ε turbulence model and VOF free surface tracking method. We arrangement the simulation data and extracted which corresponding to the physical model position.5.The actual measured spillway hydraulic data were regarded as the verifying data with which contrasted and analyzed to those obtained numerical simulation results,verify the reliability of the numerical simulation results.
