China has vast territory and abundant resources, with ample hydraulic energy andbooming water and electricity. As the management science develops, project managementhas been playing a more and more important role. Since the reform and the opening up,our country has made progress in PM. Project responsibility, biding system, andconstruction supervision are set up to constitute the management system. Under thissystem, carry out the mainly parallel procurement system which plays a constructive rolein water conservancy and hydropower projects.In recent years, with the reform of economic system, the investment subject tends tobe diversified; especially when private capital starts to come up in the project, whichmakes the original management system isn’t suitable for use. Meanwhile, China’s entryinto the WTO brings the international advanced general project management pattern intoChinese market and gives rise to huge impact to the current management pattern.Therefore, it’s the inexorable trend to study the PM patterns.This thesis firstly discusses the research background and significance of the project,particularly about the definition of the project management and features and also reviewsthe current situation and development tendency both home and abroad. Also, this thesisprobes into the dominant pattern of the Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineeringon the basis of the analysis of the features and management system and the currentproblems of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, and explores the reasonsand proposes the modified counter plan.Through the research of this thesis, we can see that the study of Water Conservancyand Hydropower Engineering has some realistic significance. Now our country must takeup and mirror the international mainstream management patterns. Take the essence anddiscard the dregs and integrate the project’s main features and build up the compatibleinternational conventional projects which match China’s conditions. It can improve theproject management in China, promote China’s hydropower engineering constructioncompanies to move forward, and raise its international competitiveness. And it also has apractical meaning for our country engineering construction companies in stepping intothe international construction market.
