Integration And Evolution Of Henan Countryside Settlement Pattern Under New Rural Construction

Henan Province, both the most populous and the largest agricultural province of China, has a large population of104.89million at the end of2011. The permanent resident population in Henan is about93.88million, including62.3million of people who still live in villages, taking59.39%of the total population of Henan Province. Even though the urbanization would maintain high rapid development in next several decades, the percent of rural population may drop to30%, there are still more than30million of population living in villages in the long-term. Besides, the countryside settlements in Henan are widespread, high-quantity, and the settlement shape has homogeneity and obvious loose characteristics from ancient times to the present, such as the architecture dimension and style are semblable each other, the lift and culture participation level among the villagers are very high, the houses built by the villagers themselves are very random and virous. Therefore, the countryside settlements, which is the place where the villagers inhabit and live in long term as well as the carrier and container of rural politics, economy, society and culture, are stepping into an unprecedented transition period inevitably, with embracing the innovation and development opportunities, and facing great challenge. At present, the new countryside construction drives the old social structural system of each levels to move towards disintegration. The phenomenons, for example building the houses along the street, rural hollowing, villages movement and merger, center villages building, old villages rebuilding, emerge endlessly nowadays. However, the newly-integrated and replanned social structural system consists of reasonable and conflict factors representing improvement and crisis respectively. Numerous environment and resource problem and many related complication has become the significant obstacles to bounding the building of the well-off society in an allround way and sustainable development. More and more people realize that the new countryside construction is not just the entities construction, what’s important, it is also the development of rural social culture, living behavior, habitable area diversity and plenty, acting in cooperation with local climate, geography, culture and history factors. With the time passing, the existing villages will develop and change into new countryside settlements.This thesis focuses on rural settlement integration from the architectural angel combining the research and practical results of many disciplines under the ongoing new countryside construction. The author selected the rural settlement regulation in Xin County, the new countryside construction in Xi County, the new countryside planning and construction in Taiqian County and Yancheng District of Luohe City in Henan Province as the investigation objects to seek the key influencing factors and operation mechanism of rural settlement and analyze the internal regularity and regionalism under every presentations through comprehensively analyzing the components and general characteristics of rural settlement pattern in Henan Province, sort and analyze the history of the rural settlement development and evolution, and the current situation of the new countryside construction in the research areas. This thesis is designed to supply guidance for people according to the development process of the countryside settlements in Henan Province to correctly help the people to learn the integration and construction of rural settlements situation to keep, recover and develop the healthy life scene peculiar to rural settlements, save social cost, improve the living environment for the resident, prolong the rural cultural lifeline, and provide experience summary and theoretical reference to resolve these common problems during the new countryside construction, and promote the sustainable development of rural settlements.
