Incorporated with China Science and Technology Museum project“Research and Development on Grotesque Indoor Airship Control System”, this paper conducted a research on indoor airship autopilot. A solution of indoor airship autonomous flight control was proposed and high efficient, easy operation indoor airship autopilot was designed. The feasibility, practicability and efficiency were demonstrated by flight tests.This paper first summarizes the research background and origins, and then explicitly introduced the research purpose, significance and world wide research status. Then this paper outlines the general plan and explicate the design method of each module, explain the function of each module. The“Ultrasonic Ranging System”is specifically introduced as the crucial part of the design and explained basic theory and its design method. The modeling, designing and simulation methods of autonomous flight algorithm are discussed and a viable cost efficient path planning algorithm was proposed. Finally, the debugging process of indoor airship autopilot control system was explained, problems is analyzed and solution was given, test results was also analyzed.At the end of the paper the overall design method is summarized and analyzed, the shortage and research trend in future is explained.
