Office building is the principal sector of the commercial building inChina. Due to the Chinese statistical policy is still in its infancy stage, themacro-energy analysis, especially the statistical and historical feature studiesof office building in China is significant but limited.Under the circumstance, the objective of this research is to observe andstudy the statistical distribution characteristic of office building in China, based on a penetrating analysis of energy use status. At the same time, thepresent and historical status of typical developed countries is used to becompared, in order to propound the existing problems as well as the possiblesolutions in China.Starting with status analysis, the “Dual Sector Distribution” hypothesisof office building energy use has been proposed, based on a large amount ofdata in China. The regional imbalance as well as several challengeable issuesand countermeasures is pointed out, on the basis of developed countiesexperiences. Then as one of the most significant influencing factors, anin-depth investigation and research of occupant behavior and its influence inoffice building is promoted at six open offices in three large scaled officebuildings in Beijing and Hong Kong. Typical behavior modes are summarizedand the effect process is studied by simulation based on on-site survey. In a conclusion, this study figures out the current situation of officebuilding energy use in China, discusses its unique “Dual Sector Distribution”characteristic, and explains why the expansion of office building developmentand its energy increasing should be curbed, after learning the valuable lessonsfrom developed countries, and finally illustrates the important effect ofoccupant behavior in office building by on-site survey and simulation.
