| Beijing Nanhaizi Country Park locates in Nanyuan, the former royal huntingpark which possessed rich natural and cultural ecological resources for severaldynasties like Yuan, Ming and Qing. Along with the intensification of humanintervention, the former hunting park suffered from severe ecosystem degradation anddegraded into an urban landfill about8square kilometers large, which is seriouslyconstraining the development of South Beijing City. As the first part of the SouthBeijing Development Plan, the ecological restoration here will start to break throughthe predicament caused by urban garbage and restore the urban ecological system as awhole. This process will not only improve the quality of human settlements, but alsobring the animals a better habitat.The construction of the park starts from treatment and sealing of refuse-theprimary source of disturbance. Together with all the other steps in ecologicalrestoration like flood control and animal protection, the spatial framework of the parkis decided rationally. In this process, refuse transforms from the harmful elements ofnatural environment into the material to build it. Construction, the object of study ofthis thesis, helps in this transformation and represents the activeness of human inurban ecological restoration.Based on the Nanhaizi case, the thesis studies the background, the idea of designand technology of constructions for ecological restoration of urban landfills. Thethesis introduces the ecosystem degradation happened in this area, discusses thedevelopment of urban ecological restoration and construction’s role within it,analyzes the integrated shaping process of the terrain, the city and the constructiondominated by ecological restoration, summarizes the technical difficulties andstrategies of such kind of construction according to project practice in phase1. Tosum up, the thesis derives from special urban ecological issue and attempts to explainhow human participate in the solution by construction. |
