Concrete face rockfill dam (CFRD) is developing very fast in the construction of modern water resources and hydropower projects because of its high security, low cost and wide application. Now CFRD is one of the most widely used dam type.The development of Concrete-face Rock Fill Dam in our country is so fast in recent years, the altitude and scale of dam exceeded the level of world-class. We obtained valuable experience in designing and construction, also obtained many production in theory, but the breakthrough progress is not obtained now. So it is so important for studying the stresses and deformations of Concrete-face Rock Fill Dam.In this paper, the introduces development course of the rockfill dam, research status, The advantages and disadvantages of the rockfill dam.the basic nonlinear theories and methods and several kinds of constitutive models for rockfill in the finite element simulation analysis of CFRD are studied, instruct the difference of the calculation results by using the different calculation method and the stress-strain relationship of different material in detailed. Based on Engineering Practice select the Duncan hyperbolic E-v model as the rockfill materials mode. The calculation model of sealing rod between concrete plate, and solution procedure of the nonlinear equation and the criterion of the convergence.Take XiaoWan He reservoir concrete face rockfill dam as an example,by using finite element analysis method.Selecting representative profile of the dam using ANSYS software model and mesh. Simulation engineering stage and grading load lication, and carries on the stresses and strains in completion period and storage period of two dimension finite element. The maximum vertical displacement and horizontal displacement of the dam upstream and downstream, big and small principal stress of the dam, along the slope Stress of the face plate and surrounding seam shear or stretching displacement in different periods have been analyzed. The results show that completion period, rockfill and the panel only in the deformed under the dead load. Deformation value and stress value are small.Dam and panel deformation and stress distribution is basically rational.storage period,the level of dam deformation and vertical displacement is basic the symmetric distribution. Because water pressure load, The horizontal displacement distribution have more apparent change. The dam upstream dam axis part to the direction of the upstream displacement reduced,pointing to the direction of the downstream displacement has increased. The change of the vertical displacement as the change of horizontal displacement is obvious. Taking one with another the panel deformation coordination, surrounding the seam stretch displacement and shear displacement are small. According to engineering example, This method calculation accuracy meet the requirements. The method is simple and results is intuitive.
