Due to the particularity and limitation of civil engineering structure, the differencesbetween various national codes are remarkable. Along with the increasing offoreign-related engineering project in Electric Design Institute, a lot of projectsintimated that using their domestic code for design, so it is particularly important tounderstand the similarities and differences of domestic and foreign code for engineers.In order to understand the difference between Chinese and Indian Code instructural design comprehensively, this article gives the difference of the two codes as areference of future design through the design of a steel frame.Research works in this article are as follows:(1) From the wind load, earthquake action, load combination, detailing thecomputation procedure of Indian code “IS:875(PART3)-1987”,“IS1893:2002”andChinese code “Load code for the design of building structures”(GB50009-2001),“codefor seismic design of buildings”(GB50011-2010), the differences are compared indesign between Chinese code and Indian code.(2) Establish the structure model with a transfer station in India thermal powerstation by using the STAAD ProV8i developed by Engineers Inc. The structure iscomputed and analyzed based on the Chinese code and Indian code. Based theanalytical results, the differences for design of steel frame are put forward between thetwo codes.(3) According to the comparison, summarized similarities and differences in thecalculation of wind load, earthquake action, load combination. Result reveals that the ratio of column calculated by Indian codes is higher than by Chinese codes.
