Based Study On The Morphological Type Of City Square In Xi’an

Organizational forms of urban public open spaces reflected the urban spatial structure,and determined a city’s external image. As an important urban public open space CitySquare can not be replaced in the space frame of the whole city,and squaremorphological directly determined the quality of the square space, affected the ways ofpublic activities. At present, whether Western or China, the study of the city squareshown a multi-perspective and multi-field development trend, the study of the citysquare morphological type is one aspect of many areas.This paper selected21typical city squares in Xi’an, merged and summaryed themorphological types of21typical city squares. First, analyzed the realistic backgroundof city square morphological, and established the theoretical framework of the study,clear up the effects factors and composition factors.And then, research the21typicalsquares from the base surface, vertica, boundary and markers,and contrasted andanalyzed the composition factors of square morphology.Finally, summarized themorphological types of Xi’an city squares from effects factors and compositionfactors,and put forward exist problems and improvement strategys of Xi’an citysquare.Finally, summarized the morphological types of Xi’an city square in effects factors andcomposition factors. In effects factors can divided into Urban structure level, relation ofsquare and the surrounding environment and square nature; in composition factors candivided into Rule-based type, free type,, cluster type and control type. And analyzed andsummarized space layout, examples and scope of application of the different types ofsquares.
