With the increase in the total number of car and driving speed, the number of road trafficaccidents became larger, many researchers are paying more attention to the technology research whichrelated automotive safety. Vehicle active collision avoidance control system is one important part ofthe automotive safety technology. It’s widely used to improve road safety and reduce accident rates,and it’s significant that promote the development and implementation of intelligent traffic. Humanactive collision avoidance system should not only consider the traffic safety, it needs to take intoaccount the driving comfort. This requires study different control modes to analyze the impact ofcontrol strategies for both.In this paper, the object of study is automotive collision avoidance system, the study coveredvehicle dynamics model, traffic safety distance model, collision avoidance controller modeling andco-simulation based on vehicle dynamics and control theory. And the influence of two differentcollision avoidance control strategies for vehicle on traffic safety and ride comfort was analysised.Paper first designed the overall of active collision avoidance systems for cars; defined the variouscomponents and their functions. A dynamic model of active collision avoidance system in carsim andsimulink for the control system needs was created. Its effectiveness was verified through somesimulation test. A safe distance model which reflect the characteristics of a driver was chosen. Twotypes of collision avoidance controller model according to fuzzy control theory and optimal controltheory was built respectively in simulink. And some simulated experiments was done for the typicaltraffic conditions such as cruise control, vehicle spacing maintained, the speed track. This paperanalysised the influence of two different control strategies for vehicle on traffic safety and ridecomfort in different conditions. While quantified and graded the evaluation criteria of the safety andcomfort. This article determined the evaluation criteria of two control modes of control system.The co-simulation test verified that the designed collision controller can achieve anti-collisionfunction and take into account the cruise,vehicle spacing maintained and the speed track. Trafficsafety and the driving comfort have also been considered. It will be helpful in further enhance theusefulness of collision avoidance system. Besides, due to time and conditions constraints, there is noreal vehicle crash test to verify the effect of the control system in this paper, which needs further studyand improvement.
