As corrugated paperboard tends to be more lightweight structurally, Double-Plycorrugated paperboard, as one kind of corrugated paperboard, has nowadays become afocus both on research and application. It has been largely and quite early used in Europe,America and Japan, while China just began to introduce its research and production adecade ago. Regarding to the research of Double-Ply corrugated paperboard, only flatcrush strength, ring crush strength, puncture strength and breaking resistance degree havebeen studied. Less cares about its mechanical cushioning properties and this will be mainresearch point in this paper.Firstly, the mechanical model involving in the performance of the Double-Plycorrugated paperboard needs to be established. Theoretical analysis is also essential sothat the equivalent elastic modulus for Double-Ply paperboard could be calculated.Meanwhile, the elastic modulus for corrugated medium, which has high strength and was95g per square, will need to be tested. The bending elastic modulus for single-layerDouble-Ply corrugated paperboard will be tested in the light of the overhanging beamthree-point method. Secondly, static and dynamic compression tests for multi-layerDouble-Ply corrugated paperboard will be conducted, according to GB8168-87testingmethod of static compression for package cushioning materials and GB8167-87testingmethod of dynamic compression for package cushioning materials. Static and dynamicstress-strain curves obtained from those tests will be available to cushioning packagingdesign. The energy absorption diagram based on the static and dynamic test data couldbetter illustrate the cushioning properties for Double-Ply corrugated paperboard by usingMATLAB software. Finally, the finite element software ANSYS will be used here tosimulate and analyze the cushioning properties of single-layer Double-Ply corrugatedpaperboard.The research point in this paper will not only help the understanding, developmentand utilization of the cushioning properties for Double-Ply corrugated board, but alsoimprove the research into its cushioning properties, providing more convenient andeffective guidance for Double-Ply corrugated board structure optimization design.
