High speed machining (HSM) is one of the main development directions of advanced manufacturing technology nowadays. Tool system is the key technology of high speed machining, of which the structure and connection performance affects the quality and efficiency of HSM. HSK (an abbreviation of Hohl Schaft Kegel) tool holder has the advantages of small dimension, less mass, high stiffness and positioning accuracy with the hollow taper shank structural characteristics, it has been widely used in HSM industry. So it has theoretical and practical significance to carry out basic study the performance of HSK tool-system.In this paper, what was studied mainly come from the key special subject of the high grade CNC machine tool and the basic equipment technology for machining. Based on the theoretical and experimental analysis, using nμmerical simulation with finite element methods, the static and dynamic performance of.the HSK tool system and thin-disc cutter has been researched, the major study content and contributions are as follows:1. We built a typical tool system with HSK toolholder and thin disc type cutters, a free modal test and a working modal test of the HSK tool system were carried out. The static and dynamic linking performance analysis of HSK tool system has been carried out, the result can be offered for evaluating static and dynamic performance and solving the vibration problem.2. Based on elastic-plastic and finite element theory, the analysis model of HSK tool system has been built. We discussed the main factors which affect the static performance with the n u merical simulation method. Based this, we put the importance on the analysis of dynamic response under imbalance incentive function, critical speed and bucking failure condition, the results reveal the law between imbalance and tool system stability. The research result can provide technical support for the dynamic characteristics research and solving the unbalancing problem of HSK tool system.3. With the method of experimental modal analysis, we carried out the free modal and working modal test of the HSK tool system, the modality parameters such as inherent frequency, damp and modal shapes were gained. These modal parameters were compared with those, which were gained with the finite element calculating method. The results verify whether the construction of the finite element modal is reasonable or not, we can provide technical help for exploring the dynamic characteristics and structural optimization of HSK tool system.4. We give the reasonable parameters to get superior performance of HSK tool system, such as mating interference, tension force and balancing scales. The results show that although the HSK tool system has the high stiffness, but the balancing process is also needed, otherwise, it will affect the manufacturing quality and efficiency in HSM. Based on the mastering static and dynamic performance of HSK tool system, we can do the optimization job to enhance research competence of high-speed machining tool system.The research results enriched tool system performance study for high speed machining, can provide certain theoretical basis and technical support for promoting HSK tool system popularization applications and HSK tools system indigenous manufacturing.
